Sunday brought with it warm sunshine and blue skies so we jumped in the car and headed for the Lake District.
Keswick is one of my favourite Lake District towns and the road from the A595 to Bassenthwaite is a fantastic drive. Music and sunglasses on we stopped a couple of times to admire the scenery before heading in to Keswick itself.
Bassenthwaite lake was uncharacteristically quiet and when we arrived in Keswick we could see why. The town was packed and although everyone was talking there seemed to be very little noise. Everyone looked utterly relaxed and we joined the throngs of tourists lazily strolling towards Derwentwater.
Derwentwater is one of the biggest and most beautiful lakes in the Lake District. You can rent rowing boats and motor boats, take a cruise or go for a walk to take in the surroundings.
I’ve always wanted to try one of the walks in the area and the Keswick Launch website has a list of walks of various lengths. I think we’ll be starting with an easy 1-2 hour walk around the lake. Maybe one day we’ll make it up to see the scenes from Catbells.
