The Landmark Forest Adventure Park is nestled in a forest in Carrbridge, Scotland. Around 23 miles south of Inverness it lies just off the A9. My family used to holiday in Aviemore, only 7 miles away and I have fond memories of visiting the park as a child. On a recent visit to my parents my Mum, Brother and I decided to go and see what was new.
The park includes a replica of a steam powered sawmill and features forest trails and a huge fire tower which is not for the faint hearted. We clambered up to the 105 steps and enjoyed the wonderful views of the Cairngorm Mountains and the blissful peace and quiet.
As well as exhibitions about forestry and woodland walks the park has plenty of attractions. We explored the maze, took photos in the wonder wood (where optical illusions make it look like the laws of physics don’t apply) and explored the Bamboozeleum which was full of puzzles and illusions.
The park is geared towards families so there are loads of rides, play areas and activities for kids. Since we had paid for 3 adult tickets (£5.75 each in the winter) Mum decided we needed to go on everything we could so a ride on the child sized rollercoaster was on the agenda. I hate rollercoasters of any size but climbed aboard the runaway timber train and screamed in my Mum’s ear the whole way around. She decided to have another go without me as funnily enough she hadn’t enjoyed the first one.
The woodland trail winds it’s way through the forest and if you’re lucky you might spot the resident red squirrels. We didn’t see any the first time around but popped back to the feeding area just before closing time and watched as the squirrels came down from the trees to use the feeders without interruptions from families walking past.
The Landmark Forest Adventure Park is a fantastic place to spend an afternoon, especially if you have young children as there are so many things to see and do. Water slides, sky dives, adventure playgrounds are among the things we were a little bit too big for. Maybe Landmark could be convinced to invest in some adult versions!
