I’m a pretty nosey person so when I saw film crews setting up in Carlisle last year I headed straight to our local newspapers website to find out what was going on. The News & Star informed me that the grand finale of a show I had never heard about was being filmed at Carlisle Castle. As I learned the name of the programme and a little about its plot I started to get excited.
Outlander is the story of a married combat nurse from 1945 who is somehow swept back in time to 1743 Scotland. Claire Randall is thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. She is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior and a passionate relationship is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
Featuring some faces I instantly recognised including Tobia Menzies from Game of Thrones and Graham McTavish from The Hobbit, Outlander has an all-star British cast. The show has an 8.8 rating on IMDb, has won a People’s Choice Award, is set in the Scottish Highlands and shares a part of this blog’s name, I really hope I like it as much as I think I will!
If I wasn’t excited enough I received some Outlander goodies through the post. The parcel included a map which marked key places in the story and a beautiful treasure chest which opened to reveal a Hand Stamped Outlander Necklace. Embossed on it is the Motto of Clan Fraser of Lovat, “Je suis prest” which means “I am ready”.
The first 8 episodes of Outlander season one will be available on Amazon Prime Instant Video from Thursday 26th March and the remaining episodes will be released every Sunday from Sunday 5th April.
