Featured in the Buzzfeed “12 Places You’d Never Believe Were In The U.K” Achmelvich beach is a white sandy beach with crystal clear water that you really wouldn’t think was in Scotland.
The picturesque cove was a holiday favourite of my family’s when I was growing up and I have wonderful memories of canoeing in the sea and playing in the hills around the camp site on beautiful summer days.
Just a couple of miles from Lochinver it can be reached by driving up a slightly daunting single track road and past The Shore Caravan Site to the main beach car park.
If you’re sticking around I suggest a trip to the Lochinver Larder for one of their popular pies or a visit to the pier where you can try to catch your dinner.
It was a little chilly the day we visited but if we are lucky enough to have some nice weather in the summer I’ll be packing a bag, grabbing a tent and heading up the road to spend a few days relaxing on this beautiful beach.
